William Bailey's Haunted Mansion: A Call of Cthulhu Adventure
William Bailey's Haunted Mansion: A Call of Cthulhu Adventure
Regular Price $17.95$17.95Vendor: Guf
Product Type : Role Playing Games
Hurry! Only1units left in stock!William Bailey was a figure both idolised for his philanthropy yet infamous for his ruthlessness in business and the depths of the skulduggery involved in his running legal battles with the Learmonth family over control of the Mt Egerton Mine. His 1883 mansion, which still stands on Drummond St in Ballarat, is often claimed to be one of Australia's most haunted buildings in local folklore. Legend has it that Bailey's ghost still patrols its halls on the look out for agents of the Learmonth family attempting to steal his fortune in gold.
This one-shot Call of Cthulhu adventure, set in historical 1890s Ballarat, explores some of the places, figures and legends in the story of William Bailey, and the machinations of a, today largely forgotten, cult which operated in western Victoria in the late 19th century; the New Lights or Stephenites, after their ruthless and charismatic leader Stephen. It is designed to be run as a single session between 2-3 hours.
Originally, this story took shape as a live historical roleplaying session at the Ballarat Heritage Festival in May 2023, held at the town hall and livestreamed. You can watch the performance here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqJ1qPkrYuI
William Bailey's Haunted Mansion is a work of fiction set in 1890s Ballarat as it transitions from a gold mining town to a centre of industry. We have used real locations, and even have made use of original floor plan documents, actual newspapers from the era, and historic photographs with permission. William and Emily Bailey, Thomas Learmonth, the Stephenite cult, a terrifying artifact, and our four pre-gen Investigators are all based on historical characters, events, and objects from the period; however liberties have been taken with some details to fit them to our timeline, and to the world of the Cthulhu Mythos.
